Nonnies Nest Too

My daughter, Liz, and her husband, Jeff, are expecting their first child. We know the baby is a girl, her name will be Grace Emma McHale; her due date is September 23rd, just 6 days away.

It occurred to me today, as I was in the garden sifting clumpy dirt into fine soil, that I've been nesting. I've been puttering around the yard tending my tomatoes, planting herbs, preparing a garden bed for root vegetables, planning to build a small greenhouse, stirring my compost pile, reading up on canning fruits and vegetables, getting ready to put a picket fence around the front yard, and daydreaming about what Grace and I will do when she comes over.

Over the past month I've cleared out the clutter and reorganized my laundry room, went through my closet for all the clothes I don't wear, packed them up and took a couple boxes to Goodwill, and reorganized the cupboard where I keep leftover pieces of batting.

Interestingly, the above activities coincide with my youngest daughter's move to her dorm room at UC Davis.

Ken and I are blessed, I don't think we'll ever have an empty nest and that is just fine with me.
