Today, things were moving along on schedule. I went to the grocery store to get the ingredients for the potluck dishes Kimi and I are making for tomorrow. I know I'm weird but I actually like going to the grocery store the day before Tgiving. I always have to go anyway for last minute things. I just mentally prepare myself for the shopping-cart traffic jams. Heading to the store early in the morning after a stop at my favorite coffee cart makes the trip easier, too.
This afternoon I decided to take a nap while Kimi made her pumpkin pies. Mistake. She came in my room about every two minutes with a question. The final time Kimi opened my door was to say, "Mom, I've been preheating the oven while I make the pies and there is no heat at all". Okay, so much for the nap. It was a nice "rest" instead.
Fortunately, we aren't expecting our usual 25 people for dinner tomorrow. However, I still need to make an Apple Crisp and Granny's Scalloped Corn. It just so happens that Liz's oven is on the fritz, too. What are the chances of that? So I spent some time finding an appliance repairman on what is probably one of the busiest days of the year for such. Miraculously I did find someone but not without a price. By 6:00 p.m. my oven has a new "igniter" to the tune of $239, which includes the extra $50 charged for the "emergency" call.
You should have seen Kimi balancing her two uncooked pumpkin pies across the lawn on her way to the neighbor's oven. Darn I should have taken a picture. Somebody "up there" must have known Kimi would be walking her pies this afternoon because it actually stopped raining long enough for her to get them to the Overton's.
Never a dull moment here...
